They're here!

Oh No, Not another picture of the Nile creek!
But wait, look closer....no closer still.

A recent rain filled the creek and brought some of the Pinks up from the Strait and the mouth of the creek. They are waiting in deep pools along the creek, waiting for another rain to fill the shallows where the water is only a trickle and where gravel beds, rocks and other obstacles will make passage difficult. They hover there, noses to the current, sometimes a dorsal fin breaks water, sometimes a flurry and a splash. You have to sneak up and make sure not to cast a shadow over them because that creates panic as they fear a bear or some other predator. Spawning will not begin until September, but the run has started and the return is good this year.
